James River Short Films festival awards Iran’s ‘Lunch Time’

Iran’s ‘Lunch Time’ wins 3rd place at the 2017 James River Short Films competition.

Iranian film ‘Lunch Time’ has received the third prize award at the 2017 James River Short Films competition held in Richmond, Virginia, the US.

The festival’s official website announced the winners last week, with ‘Lunch Time’ coming in 3rd place, after ‘The Real Thing’ by Brandon Kelley from the US and ‘Nerd Cave’ by Mads Reuther from Denmark.

The 15-minute ‘Lunch Time’ is about a high school girl who has come to the hospital to identify the body of her mother. The people in charge at the hospital would not let her into the morgue because of her young age.

Directed by Alireza Qasemi, the short has been nominated for a Palme d’Or at the 70th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

Among the cast members of ‘Lunch Time’ are Khorshid Cheraqipour, Roya Bakhtiari, Amir Taqdiri, Peyman Naemi, Siavash Cheraqipour, Bahram Omrani, Pouria Akhavan, Mohammad Haddadi, Alireza Qasemi, Mehdi Yeganeh, and Arash Qasemi.

Launched in 1994, the 2017 edition of the James River Short Films festival was held at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts on October 20-22, 2017.
